If you are a baggage handler, here’s why you never should tie anything to your suitcase.

A baggage handler is giving a heads-up to travelers who tie ribbons on their suitcases at the airport.

When you’re getting ready for a vacation, it’s important to make your luggage easy to find in a sea of bags. But according to this worker at Dublin Airport, adding ribbons might not be the best idea.

Many people decorate their suitcases to make them unique, hoping that it will prevent someone from mistakenly taking their bag. After all, nobody wants to end up with just one pair of underwear and no clothes for their entire trip!

We’ve all experienced it – there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to find a decent outfit using stuff from the hotel gift shop. So, can you really blame people for decorating their luggage with big sparkly letters of their name?

One careful traveler even attached a GoPro to their suitcase to keep an eye on it after it left their hands and started its journey through the confusing conveyor belts.

This really shows how some of us struggle with trust, but that’s a whole different topic.

Travelers often add fun things like trinkets, keychains, luggage tags, colorful strings, or stickers to their bags so they can spot them easily when they come around on the carousel. Tying a ribbon on the handle is also a common trick.

A baggage handler at Dublin Airport, named John, warned that personalizing your luggage might actually ruin your vacation. He said that adding things like ribbons to your suitcase could create problems when it comes to scanning your bag in the baggage area.

If the scanner can’t read your bag because of these decorations, it might have to be processed manually, which could mean it won’t make it onto your flight. John advised travelers to remove any old stickers from their bags, as they can confuse the scanning system.

He also shared some useful tips for a smoother travel experience, like keeping your suitcase wheels up to prevent any damage..

His main advice is to avoid packing Marzipan in your suitcase. If you love baking, you should find a travel-friendly alternative to bring along instead.

The baggage handler mentioned that Marzipan, which is a thick mixture of ground almonds, sugar, and egg, has a density similar to some explosives. So, don’t be shocked if you and your bag get pulled aside for a detailed check.

Missing out on a family vacation just for some Marzipan isn’t really worth it, right?

It seems like it’s a good idea to leave the ribbons and cake supplies at home if you want to catch your flight this summer.
